Volunteer English Teachers required (see previous volunteers)Volunteer English teaching

At Shree Karnadhar Secondary School, you have the opportunity of a real volunteering experience with a difference. This is a school that caters for remote communities largely deprived of educational facilities, and the staff and students genuinely appreciate the efforts made by volunteers to bring much-needed help. Teaching English is just part of the experience: meeting villagers and taking in changing rural vistas on the walk to school gives most days something to remember.

Previous experience is not essential. Enthusiasm and imagination are. Volunteers can teach from course textbooks as well as bringing their own topics and ideas from the classroom. Lessons can range from written and oral exercises to music, games or sport depending on choice. Placement periods and start dates are flexible: two months minimum is preferred, although this also can be a flexible arrangement. Saturday is day-off in Nepal: volunteers can choose which days they wish to work on a weekly basis. A special Ravi Tours volunteer package is available.

It is a challenge worthy of volunteering in Nepal. The walk uphill to the school through farmland and forest can occasionally get a bit hot and sweaty, and once there the volunteer should not expect too much in the way of educational aids. None of this is lost on the Nepalis, who recognise and appreciate that this is probably a new experience for the volunteer (see previous volunteers).

Welcome and Thank You
(a poem by Class 10 of 2006 for all volunteers)

We heartily welcome, we heartily come,
To our guest, to our guest,
Who helped, who helped and did their best,
They built the building of Karnadhar School,
That keeps away the heat and cool,
We would like to thank you,
For giving us ways and view,
We are the plants that need to grow,
We thank them who share sorrow,
We are the poor, we need help,
We can't develop as our self,
We are very cheerful seeing you help,
It doesn't need cry or yelp,
We welcome, we welcome,
We thank them, we thank them,
For making gay, for making gay,
You are all welcomed, you are all welcomed,
In coming day, in coming day.
