Dear Karnadhar Supporters
My name is Rama Thapa. I am a student at Karnadhar School, Rupse, Palpa, Nepal, and attend Class Eight. I began in Class One, so have been a pupil here for eight years.
At first the school had very poor buildings, a leaking roof and dirt floors. Now we have new brick classrooms with a concrete roof, plaster floors, doors and shutters on the windows. It is through the hard work of our School Management Committee, our teachers and through the generosity of Courier readers that we can now attend school irrespective of the weather. We are also happy to have items like a tape recorder, books, and some sports equipment that we can all use. Our contact link with St Leonards School, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, is of great benefit to us but we cannot imagine attending classes in this kind of school. We hope that they too like to receive news of us here in Rupse and also to listen to our music and voices although I know that our English is poor.
We love to welcome visitors from foreign countries and learn much from them. If we can have a volunteer teacher then we feel we are very lucky.
We do need many things of course, as it is sometimes difficult to complete our practical lessons especially in Science, but I feel we will achieve these things gradually through donations.
We also know that some of the money received is being used to help some of the children who would otherwise not come to school. We know that education is very important and are pleased to see them attend classes.
The numbers at Karnadhar have risen from 350 to 400. This is good for us and we are proud that the reputation of this school is rising. In two years I will be taking my School Leavers Certificate Examination, it is important for us to pass this exam and I want to to thank you for giving me help and confidence.
Dhaanyabad,
Rama.
